Scholarship
The North Carolina Society (NCS) is pleased to accept candidates’ applications for three (3) scholarship opportunities for the 2025–2026 academic year, via the Eula Wilson Wake and Chandler Mason Memorial scholarship funds, celebrating academic excellence, community service, and strong connections to the state of North Carolina. Each of the three (3) scholarships will provide $5,000 in academic funding, payable in two (2) equal installments of $2,500 per semester (Fall 2025 & Spring 2026).

Application Guidelines
Applications are due by June 1, 2025 (5:00 PM ET)
Announcements are expected mid-July.
Eligibility Requirements – Qualified candidates must be:
Born in NC, currently living in NC, or the child or close family member of an NCS member in good standing.
Enrolled in undergraduate studies at an accredited public or private college or university in NC.
Sponsored by an NCS member. If you do not have a sponsor and would like assistance with identifying one, email: northcarolinasociety@gmail.com.
Application Requirements – Due by June 1:
Personal Letter – Addressed to Elizabeth Adkins, President of the NC Society, detailing:
Academic standing
Financial need
Goals and reasons for seeking a college education
Extracurricular activities and community service
Any other relevant background for the Selection Committee [1]
Transcripts – Include high school and/or college transcripts
Two (2) Letters of Recommendation:
One (1) from a teacher or professor
One (1) from a member of the NC Society

2024-2025:
Sierra Bullard
Sierra Bullard, a dedicated returning college student from Scotland County, North Carolina, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in General Studies Management at UNC-Pembroke. Bullard currently works as a Registered Computed Tomography Technologist in the Imaging Service Department at Scotland Memorial Hospital, where she has spent the past 10 years refining her skills and providing compassionate care to patients. Alongside her professional responsibilities, she is deeply involved in her church community, serving at Praise Worship Ministries through Bible study, leadership, and outreach missions. Bullard has maintained a 3.6 GPA while balancing her work, studies, and personal commitments. After graduation, she aspires to achieve a leadership role in the Imaging Department.
2024-2025:
Granger Teachey
Granger Teachey, a native of Elkin, North Carolina, is an incoming freshman at Appalachian State University majoring in Dietetics and Nutrition. Graduating nineteenth in his class from Elkin High School with a 4.41 GPA, he was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the National Honor Society, and the National High School Beta Club. A dedicated trombonist, he served as First Chair in both the 2019 All-Honors Band and the 2023 Piedmont Honors Band and tutored a middle school student from 2021 to 2023. In addition to excelling in music, Teachey overcame personal challenges with ADHD to succeed on the Elkin High School Swim Team. He is actively involved with Elkin First United Methodist Church, where he serves in multiple roles and participates in the youth group. His passion for nutrition was sparked during a mission trip and further developed through earning his Food Handler’s Certification, cooking for his church, and volunteering at community kitchens. Teachey plans to pursue a Master of Science Degree in Nutrition and a Dietetic Internship, with the goal of becoming a dietician focused on improving others’ lives through healthy living.
2024-2025:
Jonah Williams
Jonah Williams, a native of Goldsboro, North Carolina, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work at the University of North Carolina Pembroke. During his first year at UNCP, he earned Honor List recognition for both the Fall and Spring semesters of 2023-2024. Williams is a 2023 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School, where he received the National Society of High School Scholars Award. He served on the Goldsboro Mayor Youth Council from 2022 to 2023 and recently completed a Summer Internship with Wayne County’s Summer Youth Employment Program, working at the Day Reporting Center. In 2021, Williams achieved the rank of Eagle Scout through Troop 48 of the Tuscarora Council, leading a service project that involved over 20 volunteers and 200 hours of work to refurbish the exterior of the AME Zion Church in Faison, North Carolina. Additionally, he assisted in rebuilding Seven Springs Community Park after Hurricane Florence in 2018. Williams has been recognized for his accomplishments by his Mayor, Governor, and the President, receiving honors such as the President’s Volunteer Service Award. He has actively participated in various community service activities, including placing American flags on veterans' graves, volunteering at local soup kitchens and food pantries, and engaging in youth programs at St. Luke United Methodist Church and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Currently, Williams is employed at McCall’s BBQ Restaurant in Goldsboro, North Carolina, alongside his ongoing community service efforts.
2024-2025 Chandler Mason Memorial Scholarship Recipient
Chandler Mason was a proud North Carolinian, graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, and an active member of the NC Society while working on Capitol Hill. We hope recipients of this scholarship will emulate Chandler who strongly believed in service to others, loved adventure, and more than anything was able to foster a connection with anyone she met. The Chandler Mason Memorial Scholarship will be part of the amazing legacy that Chandler left on this Earth, and we hope applicants who receive this scholarship will pursue their dreams and ambitions as Chandler did—determined and steadfast.
2024-2025:
Kyla Holton
Kyla Holton is a native of Garner, North Carolina, currently residing in Cary, and is a rising senior at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she is pursuing a degree in Liberal Studies with a pre-law concentration, alongside minors in English and Political Science. Holton is actively involved in student leadership, serving as a senator and judicial council member within the Student Government Association, as well as a NC A&T Delegate for the Association of Student Governments. Beyond her academic commitments, she mentors K-12 students through Mentoring for H.E.R Inc. and serves as an Honors College Ambassador. Holton has also gained valuable experience as a Legislative Affairs intern in the Governor's Office and a Congressional Intern in her Congresswoman’s District Office. A Spring '24 initiate of the Alpha Phi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., she now serves as the chapter's Connections and Social Action Chair. Holton has maintained a 4.0 GPA for six consecutive semesters and will serve as the next SGA Attorney General. Following graduation, she aspires to attend law school and become a lawyer focused on public policy, with a commitment to empowering communities.
