Welcome to the North Carolina Society of Washington, DC!
Our History and Purpose
Organized in 1896, the North Carolina Society is the oldest state society in our nation’s capital. The object of this society is to bring together in its membership men and women from the State of North Carolina; to foster acquaintance and friendship among its members through social entertainment; to stimulate and strengthen patriotism, pride of citizenship and loyalty to the Nation and to the State of North Carolina, its traditions and institutions. The Society shall be non-political and non-sectarian. No partisan political affairs shall be discussed at any meeting of the Society.
The Tar Heel Circle is an organization within the NCSW that sponsors non- partisan events bringing together influential North Carolinians with Society and Tar Heel Circle members to engage in dialogue regarding issues of the day in an informal and intimate setting. The mission of the Tar Heel Circle is to stimulate creative thinking to generate innovative solutions to the great questions and issues that face our state, nation and the world.
